X Marks the Spot!

Marking the homework on the calendars will finally pay off for my students on FRIDAY! They get to dive into this new treasure box to take home a prize for working so hard! They will also get their calendars returned back to them on this day.

You AARRRR such a huge part into making our homework program successful!

October Homework Calendar & Book-It! Begins

Remember to encourage your child to get at least 20 activities completed by the end of October for a trip to the treasure box!

Encourage your child to read one book every night and color/sticker/star the day. Our goal is for 15 Book-It Reading days to earn a Pizza-Hut certificate for a free personal pizza. You may read TO your child. You may allow your child to "picture read" the story to you. Magazines and E-Books count too, as well as the Guided Reading books that will be brought home soon on a weekly basis!
"Children become readers in the laps of their parents."

Thank you for your continued support!

A Quick Update

I am so happy with the way our year is beginning! It's been such a blessing to get to know your children this year! Unfortunately, I have been out of the classroom about one day a week for assessments regarding the KRA- Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. Next week should be the last week for these beginning of the year assessments and things will hopefully be back to normal. Fortunately, we have awesome guest teachers who are getting to know our kids, so even though I'm not in the classroom with them for a day, I am confident they are getting all of the same information. :)

As a side note, I was out on Thursday, Sept. 25 for a minor surgery. I tried to explain it the best way I could to my students. I said, "there was a part of my face that the doctor didn't think was healthy. The doctor needed to remove that part of me so that the rest of my body wouldn't get sick." I just left it at that. :)

Normally I wouldn't have even really mentioned it to them, but I have 15 stitches on my nose from a biopsy and skin cancer removal, so naturally they had lots of questions why it looks the way it does. :)    Needless to stay, I've stocked up on sunscreen. :)

Have a nice weekend!

Where is Mrs. Smith?

I have been in and out of the classroom this week. I am administering a state assessment known as KRA- Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. I am working on part one with my students for the next few weeks. This assessment is one-on-one, and must be completed by the end of September. When I'm out of the classroom, I'm just outside of our room in the hallway, working with your child one-on-one to assess their understanding of language and literacy. It gives me just a snapshot of where your child is at, academically.

As a side note, I was also out today (Thursday) for a training session on our Everyday Math program. I was here in the building, but the students had a guest teacher for the day.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send me an email.
